If you need the best possible performance for general modeling, the AutoCAD Workstation, built around the latest Intel Core i7 CPU, is ideal for the vast majority of CAD tasks.  It is configurable with Intel i7, i9, or i5 processors, up to 32GB of RAM (which is much more than enough for all but extremely large and most complex assemblies), either an Nvidia Quadro or GeForce graphics card, and multiple storage options.

For AutoCAD, the video card is what handles displaying the 2D and 3D models on the screen.  Only 3D models require anything more than a basic GPU, though, so if you will only be working with 2D models then you are better off saving money on the GPU and putting that money towards a faster CPU, SSD, or more RAM.  Either way, we recommend using a workstation Nvidia Quadro card.  Nvidia GeForce cards can technically get you better performance for your dollar, although the downside is that they are not officially certified for use in AutoCAD by Autodesk.  Because of this, we highly recommend using a Quadro card in any professional environment to ensure that you will be able to get full support from Autodesk if you every have a software issue.

The Streacom DB4 is a well performing fanless heatsink-case pc, able to cool a wide variety of processors.  The case measures 10.2×10.2×10.6 inches (LxWxH).  The DB4 case is a heatsink that directs heat from the internal parts to the outside of the case through either 6 or 14 heatpipes.  It is compatible with mini ITX motherboards and processors with TDPs of up to 95W.  There is space for up to 4 2.5″ storage drives.  It is compatible with graphics cards or other PCIe expansion cards.  The case has 2 USB 3.0 ports and a power on/off button on the bottom.  It is compatible with external power supplies.

This configuration includes an ASRock Z470M-ITX motherboard with built in Wi-Fi, an Intel i7 processor, a passively cooled Nvidia Quadro P2200 graphics card, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, a 500 GB Solid State Drive, a 240 W external power supply, and Windows 10 Pro.
